FOR THE BODY

The conventional perspective to take when talking about our physical bodies is one of separation. Conventionally, your physical appearance and physical health are separate to the rest of your life – your mind, environment, experiences. The way the mainstream perspective approaches it is that the way you eat and the way you exercise are the reasons your body looks the way it does. And that’s not wrong. But there are many missing elements to this approach of dealing with our physical bodies. One fundamental aspect is the way the mainstream narrative functions in extremes. If you want to lose weight you need to go on a weight loss journey, accompanied by some sort of diet and exercising at a gym for several hours throughout the week. Another aspect of this is the way the mainstream narrative targets short-term results. People are impatient and want to see the results of their efforts the next day. Videos like “Get a bubble butt in 3 weeks” or “Six pack abs in 30 days” are so popular all over the internet. And this isn’t some new thing – this is exactly how women’s magazines were such a huge hit (back when people actually read magazines). Balance, long-term consistency, and sustainable practices have long been over-shadowed by fads and trends in the ‘health’ industry. While the mainstream perspective seems to be catching up and adjusting their ways, there’s so much knowledge out there about taking care of our physical bodies. Here are some of the resources I LOVE that delve into healthy balanced lifestyles for our physical health.
